Boom Saloon promo photos & video clips

When Rachel, the editor in chief and the creator of Edinburgh based Boom Saloon magazine approached us to create images and short film experiences for the launch of the 5th issue, we did a little dance at the studio. We’ve been following the magazine from the very beginning especially that the ethos of the whole project is close to our hearts and we were thrilled to work together on this. Plus it is beautifully edited, printed and the content is second to none.

We had two days of fun at the Cro + Kow studio with Rachel’s creative direction supporting our ideas (ok, maybe glitter was not the best of our ideas, we’ve been vacuuming it off the studio floor ever since) and letting us run wild with the new edition of the magazine that arrived straight from the printers with a beautiful, striking portrait on the cover and a title rendered in black foil.

Boom Saloon will be releasing the images and clips in the coming days and weeks, but in the meantime, here is a little preview:

As the theme of the fifth issue is ‘resolve’ we decided to play with a fish tank and some inks. Kudos to Rachel for letting us destroy the very first copies of her creation, it must have hurt to watch us dunking them. We started with core ideas but as we were developing them new ones kept popping up based on this simple set up: some water, air bubbles and inks. Together these created a fascinating spectacle that we captured on camera as clips with delicious slow motion effects and images that the magazine is now using on their social media channels and the website. Feast your eyes and also support the good cause as all profits raised from the sale of the fifth issue of Boom Saloon will support project 002.5, which will seek to rewrite the story of dementia in collaboration with a number of local Scottish dementia groups.
