Are you intimidated by all that equipment in the studio? Do you find flash intimidating? Would you like to learn to understand how to set up sophisticated lighting set ups? This could be the course for you.

Total course price: No course currently scheduled

4 x 3 hour sessions = 12 hours total in-studio tuition

  • Introduction to using studio lighting
  • Use of studio equipment, getting to grips with heads and light adapters
  • Understanding flash light - how to measure and control it, and how to use the camera
  • General principles of lighting
  • Using light creatively
  • Playing with colour
  • Approaches to using multiple light sources
  • Additive and subtractive lighting
  • Combining flash and ambient lighting

Note: This is not intended as a strict curriculum, we may vary the topics we go into depth with depending on the particular interests of the class.

For this course, you need your own camera such as a DSLR or other camera allowing control of settings, which includes a flash hotshoe and/or flash cable socket (also called a pc connection socket). Almost every camera beyond the simplest point-and-shoots will include one of these, but best to check!

Scheduling convenience

The dates for course are shown in the calendar. If particular times or dates don't suit you however, don't worry. Let us know, and we may be able to adjust a schedule to everyone's convenience, using an online scheduling app, or even to create a new event. Also, if you would like to attend one or two classes but not a whole course, let us know and we will see if we can fit that in!

Also, because we are practising professionals working for editorial and commercial clients, it may on rare occasions be necessary to reschedule a class. When this is necessary, we will look for a date which is mutually convenient, or make alternative arrangements to make sure that you don't miss out!
